Nicholas M. Gesue
Nicholas Gesue is the chief executive officer of Lancaster Pollard.
Mr. Gesue has been an instrumental part of Lancaster Pollard’s growth since joining the firm as an intern in 2000. During his tenure he has helped to build the credit and execution capabilities of the firm as well as train many of the firm’s originators. Mr. Gesue helped to expand into the USDA and FNMA programs, and while acting as the firm’s Chief Credit Officer, helped establish the private equity fund as well as the balance sheet lending operations. For the past six years, Mr. Gesue has been active in the executive committee helping to set and execute the strategic direction of the company. He has extensive experience managing a high performance team, leading corporate initiatives and providing transactional advice to all the firm’s deal types.
Mr. Gesue received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He holds general securities representative (Series 7) and general securities principal (Series 24) licenses. He also earned his LEED Green Associate accreditation from the US Green Building Council.
Kassem K. Matt
Kassem K. Matt is the president of Lancaster Pollard Holdings, LLC. He also serves as an executive committee member for the firm.
In his role as president, Kass leads the firm’s national efforts in providing capital funding for the senior living and health care sectors. Additionally, he maintains product line responsibility for the firm’s healthcare banking, agency, M&A, private equity and finance company platforms. Before his time as president, Kass served as a regional manager for Lancaster Pollard and managed transactions in excess of $2 billion. He has 20+ years of experience in capital markets and corporate banking.
Kass holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Cleveland State University. He is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Columbus.
Robert T. Kirkwood
Robert (Bob) T. Kirkwood is Lancaster Pollard’s chief operating officer and chief financial officer of its broker dealer affiliate. He has direct responsibility for Lancaster Pollard’s Trading Desk, Mortgage Servicing, Information Technology, Accounting and Human Resources functions.
Bob brings to the position more than 15 years of experience in the real estate and banking industries. Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard in February 2014, he worked for nine years at Red Capital Group in Columbus, Ohio, most recently as chief financial officer and senior managing director where he was responsible for all financial and fiscal aspects of operations, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and treasury management.
Bob graduated from The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business in Columbus, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting. He is an inactive certified public accountant (CPA) and holds general securities representative (Series 7), general securities principal (Series 24), and financial and operations principal (Series 27) licenses.
Martin Kent Jr.
Martin is the chief credit officer of Lancaster Pollard. He is responsible for driving agency opportunities through a dedicated effort with Lancaster Pollard’s regional banking staff. He provides credit oversight for all the firm’s banking activities.
Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Mr. Kent served as the director of multifamily credit/underwriting for Fannie Mae’s seniors housing programs. During his 11 years with Fannie Mae, Kent oversaw both the seniors and affordable housing credit functions as a risk manager and ultimately as director. Mr. Kent earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in political science. Prior to that, he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for six years.
Jason has been with the firm since 2007 and currently manages its office in Newport Beach, California.
Throughout his time at Lancaster Pollard, Jason has structured a range of bond transactions and mortgage loans for over 100 expansion, new construction and refinance projects with a total loan amount of over $3 billion. He has a thorough understanding of both conventional and federal financing structures for both taxable and tax-exempt borrowers, including FHA and USDA mortgage insurance and loan programs.
Jason served as the vice chair of the National Investment Center (NIC) Future Leaders Council in 2015 and chair in 2016. In addition, he has spoken at numerous national health care conferences. He holds a master’s degree in business from the Fisher School of Business at The Ohio State University and a master’s in health administration from The Ohio State University College of Public Health.
Kenneth A. Gould
Ken Gould is a senior managing director, strategic planning and development committee chair, and a member of the executive committee of Lancaster Pollard.
Ken serves as regional manager for Lancaster Pollard’s Northeast region. Since joining the firm in 2004, Ken has been instrumental in bringing to market a variety of financing structures totaling more than $1.5 billion.
Ken received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and was recognized as a Fisher Scholar when he earned a master’s degree in business administration from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Steven W. Kennedy Jr.
Steven W. Kennedy Jr. is Senior Managing Director and a member of the Executive Committee, Strategy Committee and Operations Committee at Lancaster Pollard.
Steve is regional manager for the central United States, overseeing banking production of the firm’s Columbus headquarters, as well as its regional offices in Chicago, Austin, Kansas City and Minneapolis. He also manages the firm’s relationships with Washington DC as the company’s senior governmental liaison. Since joining Lancaster Pollard in 2001, he has closed a variety of financing structures totaling over $2.5 billion. Steve has been named the firm’s Top Health Care Banker multiple times and structured and underwrote the firm’s “Deal of the Year” in 2010, 2013 and 2016.
Steve earned his MBA from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He received a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in economics and political science as well as a certificate in organizational studies from Denison University.
Timothy J. Dobyns
Timothy J. Dobyns is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Lancaster Pollard. As a member of the firm’s senior leadership team and Executive Committee, he takes part in planning the strategic direction of the firm. He also is responsible for overseeing and directing all of Lancaster Pollard’s legal affairs.
Tim has over 20 years of legal experience in the areas of corporate finance and governance, general counsel, securities, commerical lending and real estate. Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard in 2012, he was general counsel for a commercial real estate development company. He previously was a partner at the Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP law firm, where he was a member of the Corporate and Finance Group from 1996 to 2006.
Tim obtained his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and an Associate Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. He received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio.
Craig S. Jones
Craig is a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Lancaster Pollard and plays an integral role in advancing Lancaster Pollard’s continued growth in the long-term-care sector.
Craig has more than 30 years of experience in the senior housing and health care finance industry. Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard in 2012, he worked as chief executive officer for Red Capital Advisors for more than 10 years. During this time he helped to initiate and to grow their senior housing sector to an industry leading position. Previously, Craig spent nearly 20 years at top-tier investment banks, such as Alex Brown & Sons and Lehman Brothers where he managed health care financing groups and developed innovative products for the health-care, senior housing and long-term-care sectors.
Craig earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Business Administration and his Bachelor of Art degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin.
Chad is the managing director of the mergers and acquisitions group with Lancaster Pollard. He leads the firm’s national effort in sell-side and buy-side advisory services for seniors housing and care properties.
Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Chad was a director of investment banking and capital markets for Recovery Centers for America, a health care startup focused on the mental health and substance abuse sector. He also has M&A, investment banking and private equity experience from Metalmark Capital, Morgan Stanley Capital Partners and Goldman Sachs.
Chad earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He will be based out of Lancaster Pollard’s Philadelphia office.
James C. Shoup
Jim leads the firm’s Assets Management Division. His group provides ongoing surveillance of closed loans to determine asset quality, including evaluation of property operating trends and proactive development of strategies to prevent payment delinquencies. He also oversees administration of Lancaster Pollard’s growing construction loan activities.
Prior to joining the firm, Jim spent 3 years in public accounting and 13 years in real estate development, finance, management and loan work-out, most recently as vice president of Lodging First, where he oversaw numerous development projects and was responsible for the cash management decisions for a privately held national hotel management-development company with over $400 million in assets and over $50 million in revenue.
Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs.
Mr. Harper is responsible for driving agency opportunities through a dedicated effort with Lancaster Pollard’s regional banking staff. He leads Lancaster Pollard’s national effort in enhancing the firm’s industry-leading agency loan origination platform.
Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Mr. Harper was a director of seniors housing at Berkeley Point. Prior to that, he was a managing director at Red Capital Group for 10 years. Mr. Harper earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Miami University.
Mr. Moore is responsible for driving agency opportunities through a dedicated effort with Lancaster Pollard’s regional banking staff.
Mr. Moore has previously served as a director at Berkeley Point Capital LLC. He has also experience working at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company as a principal, as well as Red Capital as a senior managing director. Mr. Moore earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas in biology. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Boston College.
Joe leads the firm’s efforts to partner with banks and provide additional options to Lancaster Pollard’s regional investment bankers for the structuring and sale of debt placements.
Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Joe served as a vice president of originations at Berkeley Point Capital LLC. He also has experience working as a vice president of corporate banking at Commerce National Bank. He has more than 20 years of banking experience in seniors housing, commercial real estate and the middle market. Joe attended Wheeling Jesuit University.
Eric A. Wilder is senior vice president, director of accounting and finance with Lancaster Pollard, a financial services firm based in Columbus, Ohio, that provides
capital funding to the senior living and health care sectors.
In addition to underwriting tax-exempt bond offerings, Lancaster Pollard provides a complete range of funding alternatives through its HUD-FHA/GNMA/FNMA/USDA-approved, mortgage lender subsidiary. It can also provide bridge-to-agency lending, private equity, balance sheet lending and M&A advisory services. Mr. Wilder is responsible for managing the accounting, reporting and financial operations of Lancaster Pollard and also aiding in the growth and development of the firm by serving on the Operations Committee.
Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Mr. Wilder spent five years at Red Capital Group, most recently serving as vice president and was responsible for all aspects of
accounting for the broker/dealer. Mr. Wilder began his career as a part of the financial services audit practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, primarily focusing on registered investment companies (RIC).
Mr. Wilder graduated from The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business in Columbus, Ohio, earning bachelor’s degrees in both accounting and finance. He is an inactive certified public accountant (CPA) and holds the financial and operations principal (Series 27) license.
Tyler Howard is vice president, director of communications for Lancaster Pollard, a financial services firm based in Columbus, Ohio that specializes in providing capital funding to the senior living and health care sectors. In addition to underwriting tax-exempt bond offerings, Lancaster Pollard provides organizations with a complete range of funding alternatives through its HUD-FHA/GNMA/FNMA/USDA-approved, mortgage lender subsidiary. It can also provide bridge-to-agency lending, private equity, balance sheet lending and investing, and M&A services.
Howard is responsible for developing and measuring the firm’s communications programs, including content creation, public relations, advertising, direct mail, national conference activity and websites. He has served in this role since 2017 and has been with the firm since 2011. Prior to Lancaster Pollard, he was a publisher of a community newspaper in northwest Ohio, The Sylvania Herald.
Howard received a master’s degree from the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University and a bachelor’s degree in english and film studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
