White paper offers basics on financing for nonprofit organizations

COLUMBUS, Ohio (May 9, 2005) – Board members of nonprofit organizations will now have a powerful new educational tool to help them understand the unique financing opportunities available to their organizations.

Lancaster Pollard, an investment banking, mortgage banking and financial advisory firm, has published a white paper entitled "Making the Decision to Finance: A Primer on the Borrowing Ability of Nonprofit Organizations." The paper provides an introductory look at the world of nonprofit finance and points out the favorable terms enjoyed by nonprofits when they seek to borrow money.

"In our firm's 16 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, we recognized that many of these organizations were choosing to spend internal funds rather than borrow. Many of the board members came from for-profit backgrounds and were not aware of the favorable borrowing terms enjoyed by nonprofit organizations," said Thomas R. Green, CEO of Lancaster Pollard.

These benefits include the ability to borrow at lower interest rates and pay tax-free interest to investors. The paper describes the mechanics of tax-exempt bonds, a low-cost borrowing option available to nonprofit organizations.

"Our goal was not necessarily to make the readers financial experts but to assist them in becoming more knowledgeable and identifying opportunities that will benefit their organizations," said Gerald M. Swiacki, senior vice president and author of the white paper.

Executives and board members are invited to download a free copy of the white paper or request one at (614) 224-8800.
